Weight training is a great form of exercise to sculpt your body and challenge your strength. But it’s EXTREMELY important to ensure you understand the proper form for different movements, especially as you increase the weights.
4 TIPS TO BETTER FORM:
- Leave your ego at the door
Don’t look to compete with others. Simply focus on yourself and your own workout! - Slow down
Don’t rush the movement. Focus on the muscles you’re targeting as you’re performing the exercise. - Use lighter weight
If you notice you’re really struggling with your form or it feels uncomfortable, lower your weight. This way you can practice controlling your form at a more manageable weight. Then as you nail the form, slowly increase the weight! - Have another experienced weight lifter observe your form
A second opinion on form can be very helpful! If you don’t want to ask someone for help, try recording yourself so you can re-watch yourself perform the movement.
